This is a really solid and reliable SSD. I couldn’t be happier with it and I’m getting a solid 550+ speed connection with my current setup. I believe usb-c is limited to 500ish, but I could be wrong and it might be capable of 1k.It’s tiny, has really short, but useful connections. The build quality is excellent. These SSD prices are going way down and I think this was a solid buy. A year and a half ago, similarly spec’d Samsung SSD was going for $2k in Australia. I only just got it, but I reckon I’ll post another review updating how it is continuing to perform. Thanks for a great product!

I have a couple of portable USB-C SSD drives from the Samsung T5, Western Digital My Passport SSD, LaCie Mobile SSD, and now this G-Technology G-Drive Mobile SSD.SizeIn terms of size, I would say the Western Digital My Passport SSD wins in terms of compactness. It has a mix of metal and plastic with the same colour profile as the G-Drive which isn’t surprising at all because W-D owns G-Technology.WeightAgain, the W-D My Passport SSD wins, while the G-Drive coming in as the heaviest. And when I mean “heaviest”, we’re talking about grams of weight. Which I am okay with because the G-Drive is IP67 rated and very well protected.DurabilityThe reason why I decided on the G-Drive Mobile SSD is because of it’s ruggedness without looking ugly. And while I know that’s relative, if you’ve seen the other rugged hard drives that either look like you’re going to a pool party or to a war zone – this G-Drive strikes a nice balance in terms of not being over or under-dressed for the occasion.FeaturesHow can you not like this G-Drive.- It’s IP67 rated which means it’s dust and water resistant.- It can survive a 3-meter drop protection.- Rated to withstand 1,000 lbs.- Inside that plastic casing is an aluminum core to help dissipate heat to ensure no slowdown of the memory chips.CONSI can only think of one and it’s a big glaring omission – the USB-C cables are very, very short! What were they thinking? The Western Digital My Passport SSD counterpart is decent just like the competitors. So I would expect this to be within industry standard in length. But no, G-Technology decided to make an awesome portable SSD drive with all the features you come to expect and then provide a near useless cable. So one star down for having the user to spend extra for a longer USB-C cable.OverallA great buy. Highly recommend if only for that short oversight.
